Steven is a nurse and horticulturist with 30 years of experience within healthcare. He has successfully combined these careers within Austin Health and works a collective of roles as a rehabilitation nurse, a horticultural therapist, the Gardens and Grounds Coordinator and the Staff Wellbeing Program Therapeutic Horticulture facilitator.
Steven has developed the successful horticultural therapy program and therapeutic gardens at the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre and have expanded on this to be developing and managing gardens across the Austin Health network.Â
He is passionate about connecting people with plants and gardens for improved health and well-being. In 2018 he was a guest presenter on the ABC Gardening Australia television show sharing stories about therapeutic horticulture
In 2015 Steven was awarded a prestigious 50th Anniversary Churchill Fellowship to research the development, use and management of therapeutic gardens in healthcare settings and in 2012 was awarded the Gardening Australia magazine Gardener of the Year.

Located at the Chandler Highway exit of the Eastern Freeway, with Yarra Boulevard being immediately adjacent to the bridge that crosses the Yarra River.
Parking:
Pay parking onsite ($3) – take ticket at entry boom gate, park in rear car parking area preferred (as per attached map), and pay at the machine at the main building prior to returning to your car and exiting (Entry 3 on attached map).
Free parking – available along Yarra Boulevard, then walk up onto the site.
Public transport:
There is very little public transport available to access the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre.
Gardens:
There will be THA signage on the day to direct to the gardens, which are located opposite the main building (Entry 3 on map).

Photography of the garden is allowed, we only ask that you refrain from taking photos of people as they may be patients, to respect their confidentiality.
Cafe:
There is a small cafe onsite in the main building to purchase refreshments/snacks.
