Alexis is the founder of Root in Nature, a venture born out of her deep love for plants, gardening, and the therapeutic benefits they offer.
Root in Nature strengthens human health by connecting people with plants and nature through therapeutic horticulture, while serving as a training hub and professional growth platform for practitioners in the field. We offer in-person therapeutic horticulture services in Ottawa and virtual therapy world-wide, along with a growing suite of e-Learning courses and an international community called GrowTH: Grow Therapeutic Horticulture.
Alexis’s journey into horticulture began through her volunteer work with WWOOF, where she discovered the profound connection between nature and well-being.
With 11 years of experience as CEO of Habitat for Humanity, as well as a BComm and an MBA in International Development Management, Alexis brings a blend of business acumen and a passion for making a positive impact. She studied the Foundations of Horticultural Therapy and is an active member of the American and Canadian Horticultural Therapy Associations (AHTA & CHTA), as well as now THA!
During weekends, you’ll find her tending to her gardens, cultivating food that her husband skillfully cooks and her two young daughters enjoy.
