MIFGS Workshops : Sensory Mandala Making with Pauline Marsh | 28th March : 2:00 – 4:00pm
Dr Pauline Marsh leads the Venture Out Living Lab research team at the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre at the University of Tasmania. The Venture Out team alongside people living with dementia and community green space custodians to create dementia-inclusive nature hubs. They aim to keep people living with dementia and their care-partners connected to nature to help people to live well and enjoy the outdoors.
During this workshop you can expect to experience how handling various sensory materials, and creating a shared art work, can be calming and relaxing. You may also just sit quietly and watch the mandala develop: this can also lower stress levels.
In this workshop participants will have a chance to create a mandala using plant and other materials from nature. As we build the mandala, Pauline Marsh, an expert in nature connection and nature-based dementia support, will be on hand to talk about how and why nature plays an important role in reducing stress.
Each workshop group will build on the work of the previous group, and at the end of the three workshops the mandala will be dismantled.
This workshop is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. It will have particular interest to people living with dementia or caring for someone with dementia or other cognitive conditions.
Pauline’s workshop runs in 30 minute cycles from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, so drop in anytime to join us. You will find us at the Beyond Blue site “B57”.
