Presenters: John Rayner (jrayner@unimelb.edu.au) and Leigh McGaghey (info@wiredfornature.com.au), Education Sub Committee members. Education and training in TH tend to reflect a country’s level of recognition and advancement of TH as a defined occupation. In Australia there are currently no specialised accredited education and training programs to support TH, at least those recognised under the Government-regulated Australian Qualifications Framework. However, there are various private providers and training organisations offering a range of short courses and workshops in TH; and there are some international training opportunities for online studies. This webinar will provide an overview of the Australian, and the key [English-language] international offerings, together with insights into developing further education and training opportunities in Australia for the future. John Rayner

John is an Associate Professor and Director of Urban Horticulture at the University of Melbourne’s Burnley Campus, John’s teaching and research interests centre on the design and use of plants, particularly in green infrastructure, children’s landscapes and in therapeutic horticulture. He is a passionate educator, has published widely and is regularly engaged as a horticultural consultant for major landscape projects.

Leigh McGaghey

Leigh is a landscape architect who also holds qualifications in diversional therapy. She has taught widely in landscape and environment qualifications, and managed new training projects for TAFE NSW. Leigh works in Sydney where she designs restorative gardens for private clients, provides TH assessment services in aged care and multi-dwellings and develops TH engagement programs for a psychology consultancy.
